Book editing and editorial evaluation
I edited 5 fiction titles for Vinspire Publishing and proofread a title for Melange Books, working directly with those authors through multiple rounds. I also completed cold reads of two Christi Caldwell novels and an editing practicum with May McGoldrick for my University of Washington certificate.

Cold reads of Christi Caldwell novels

I reviewed each manuscript chapter by chapter for continuity and line-level issues. For In Bed with the Earl, I also researched historical details for author queries.
Fiction editing
Editing books for Vinspire Publishing and Melange Books

Pockets of Promise
I completed the content edit and prepared the final manuscript, including grammar and style work, clarity edits, and queries about plot and continuity.
“I had the pleasure of working with Becca Shreves on my first book Pockets of Promise. She approached the project with enthusiasm and excitement. Her edits and queries – delivered in a clear and timely manner - helped polish the manuscript and strengthen the story. As a result, I became a better writer. I highly recommend her and look forward to working with her again in the future.”
Laurie Stroup Smith
The Mystery of the Golden Ball
I completed the content edit and prepared the final manuscript. The work included sentence structure, dialogue, paragraphing, and queries about plot and clarity.
“I worked with Becca on the second book of my mystery series, Pen & Quin: International Agents of Intrigue. From the beginning, I was impressed with Becca's enthusiasm for the book. She took the characters to heart and edited to bring out the best, both in the story and in Pen and Quin. Her attention to detail is first rate, as is her overall editing for story concept. I couldn't be more pleased with the final copy. Becca is a top-notch editor who will make your story shine.”

Rebekah's Dress
I completed the content edit and prepared the final manuscript, with sentence-level edits, continuity and plot queries, and Chicago style checks.
“Becca was a dream to work with. As an author, when you write your book it can be likened to having a baby. Of course, you don't trust your baby in the hands of just anyone. When I put my book into Becca's hands, I immediately knew that we had a common goal- to bring this book to life together in the most seamless, polished form possible. She shared my vision and her awesome edits were never harsh, but always constructive and thoughtful. To know she was my book baby's first fan was perhaps the biggest honor of all! I can't wait to work with her again on my next book baby project!”

The Test of Gold
I completed the content edit and prepared the final manuscript. I reviewed flow and consistency, queried historical details, fact-checked, and checked foreign-language styling and formatting.
Pockets of Purpose
I completed the second-round edit after another editor’s first pass. The work covered continuity, clarity, grammar and style, character and plot issues, factual queries, and final preparation.
Lydia, The Mythik Wars, Book 2
I proofread the manuscript twice, with author and publisher feedback between rounds, then delivered the final file.
“I have to say that Becca's assistance with my latest book was absolutely invaluable. I can only recall a few edits that I disagreed with, but Becca was open-minded and we always had a productive conversation about the changes, and in most cases, I ended up using going with her original plan. That being said, Becca was always willing to listen to my reasoning for certain dialogue, spelling or even scene organization. I am hoping to be able to work with her again in the future...”

Practicum
Editing practicum with May McGoldrick
For my University of Washington editing practicum, I worked directly with Nikoo and Jim McGoldrick, writing as May McGoldrick, on a 3,000-word section of a novella. I wrote the proposal, completed developmental and line edits, sent author queries, built a style sheet, incorporated their feedback, and delivered the final edit.
“Becca's work is exemplary. She helped us update a novella we'd written years earlier, and it looks quite fresh now. Her edits were insightful and on target. Her ability to communicate clearly and professionally is also outstanding. Cover letters, emails, and in-text comments were clear and friendly and meaningful. She managed our project skillfully. The agreed-upon schedule was reasonable, and deadlines were met consistently. We recommend her in the highest terms!”
